Quick question for you — is there an Israeli Cuisine joint in Calgary? Because if we’re working with this whole music-food analogy, and if Monotonix are representative of Israel, then we need to gorge ourselves on it. Luckily, you’ll be able to at Sled Island, because Monotonix are playing a shit ton of shows that are guaran-damn-teed to leave your jaw on the floor.

Monotonix are a three-piece garage punk band, with more than a little Sabbath groove in ‘em, that hail from Tel Aviv, Israel. After forming in 2005, their shows started to get shut down for their insane, unorthodox live performances. The band decided to seek out other places to play rock shows - and lo and behold, the world discovered Monotonix.
Their live show consists of the audacious trio setting up on the floor of a venue submerged in the crowd. Before the audience really knows what’s going on, the lead singer is half-naked and floating on top of the crowd. Wildly energetic guitar riffs and outrageous drums fuel the wall of sound, commanding the respect of every moving body in their near vicinity. Expect to be covered in sweat and have a few moments where you’ll question whether it’s humanly possibly to carry on, and then you’ll discover why Monotonix is one of the hardest working bands in rock n’ roll.
Monotonix have just finished up recording their latest record on Drag City and will continue their relentless tour schedule after playing 250 shows last year, with a couple of unforgettable shows at Sled Island ‘09.
